Villa Capozza is a historic residence located on the Madonna della Campana Hill in Casarano, Salento, Puglia. The villa has a covered area of 2,300 square meters and includes the main house and two outbuildings, all surrounded by over 18,000 square meters of garden. Dating back to the late eighteenth century, the villa was built by the noble De Donatis family as a summer residence, and still retains the original elements of the time, including Art Nouveau mosaics and characteristic furnishings.
Villa Capozza has been the subject of a careful restoration in 2000, which has allowed to recover the original mosaics, architecture and friezes, returning its ancient splendor, including the Habsburg Tower.
Casarano, the surrounding town, is a charming Baroque village with a rich history of events and influences. Over the centuries, it has gone through various dominations, including Byzantines, Normans, Swabians and Aragonese, thus contributing to its unique history. The historic center of Casarano is well preserved, with buildings and monuments dating back to the feudal era. Among the main attractions is the Palazzo de Judicibus of the seventeenth century, considered one of the symbols of the city, and the Matrice Church of Casarano, dedicated to Maria Santissima Annunziata, which is a remarkable example of religious architecture.
Piazza Garibaldi is the heart of the city and houses the majestic Aquinas Palace, also known as The Castle. Other attractions include the Obelisk of San Giovanni Elemosiniere in Piazza San Giovanni and the 18th century Clock Tower. The Church of Casaranello or Santa Maria della Croce is a jewel of the Byzantine era and is a valuable testimony of early Christian church, with frescoes and mosaics dating back to the fifth century AD.
Casarano is strategically located, just 11 kilometers from the beautiful sandy beaches of places such as Ugento, Lido Marini, Torre San Giovanni and Torre Mozza. In addition, it is 20 kilometers from the popular tourist destination of Gallipoli, with its breathtaking beaches such as Rivabella, Baia Verde and Punta della Suina.
