This charming residence, located in the enchanting region of Salento, Puglia, is an ancient hermitage that has been restored and transformed into a Charming Residence with a panoramic pool that offers a breathtaking view of the sea. The building dates back to the twelfth century and is the result of a careful restoration of an ancient Franciscan Convent. The property is located 100 meters above sea level, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees and the typical Mediterranean scrub. The Hermitage is part of the protected area of the Natural Park, created by the Municipality to preserve the unique landscape of Salento.
The Hermitage is located on a hill overlooking the beaches of Torre San Giovanni, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Salento countryside. This place inspires tranquility and meditation, and is ideal for those seeking peace and inner regeneration.
The House is composed of an ancient church with frescoes of great historical and religious value, which was inhabited by the Franciscan monks until a few years ago. The church is subject to continuous restoration and can be visited on certain days open to the public, including public holidays on which Mass is celebrated.
The main building of the Convent has been transformed into a Charming Residence of 500 square meters, which includes 6 Suites with Bathroom, a Kitchen and various services. The property also has a swimming pool, two internal gardens and a spacious outdoor garden, which covers a total area of 3,000 square meters. The garden is characterized by the presence of ancient trees and offers a spectacular view of the sea.
The history of the Hermitage through the centuries is fascinating. Originally built in the twelfth century with a church frescoed in the Byzantine style, the building has undergone several stages of ownership and use over the centuries. After being a commander of the curia of Gallipoli and having crossed various hands, it was acquired in 1889 by Baron Adolfo Colosso, who joined the church to the surrounding masserizia property. Over the years, it has gone through several generations of the Colosso family and has undergone significant restoration. After being hosted by the renewed Order of Franciscan Friars Minor, the hermitage was further renovated and opened a new chapter in its history.
The location of the hermitage offers a balance between the countryside and the sea, being only 5 minutes away from Torre San Giovanni and close to the main tourist attractions of the Salento region. It is undoubtedly a unique residence that offers the opportunity to live in a historic and fascinating environment, surrounded by the natural beauty of Salento.
